Electrical properties of Ba2(In1 − x Al x )2O5 solid solutions

Abstract: Abstract-The electric conductivity of perovskite like Ba 2 (In 1 -x Al x ) 2 O 5 solid solutions (0 < x ≤ 0.20) characterized by structural disordering in the oxygen sublattice was studied as a function of temperature and partial pressure of oxygen in an atmosphere with a low content of water vapors = 3 × 10 -5 atm). When In 3+ was partially replaced by Al 3+ , the oxygen ion conductivity increased because of the disordering of oxygen structural vacancies, leading to a significant increase in the total electri… Show more

“…Since the dis covery of proton conduction in materials with perovskite structure (Iwahara et al, 1980s [3,4]), it is also revealed at present in oxide systems with structure of brownmillerite [5,6], scheelite [7,8], pyrochlore [9], and even fluorite [10]. This unique feature opens the possibility of applying such materials as electrolytes for intermediate and high temperature electrochemical devices, including solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) [11], sensors [12], electrolyzers [13], membrane reactors for high purity hydrogen production [14], ammonia synthesis [15], natural fuel desulfidization [16], and hydrogenation/dehydrogenation of simple hydrocarbons [17].…”
