Electrochemical Motion Tracking of Microorganisms Using a Large‐Scale‐Integration‐Based Amperometric Device

Abstract: Motion tracking of microorganisms is useful to investigate the effects of chemical or physical stimulation on their biological functions. Herein, we describe a novel electrochemical imaging method for motion tracking of microorganisms using a large-scale integration (LSI)-based amperometric device. The device consists of 400 electrochemical sensors with a pitch of 250 μm. A convection flow caused by the motion of microorganisms supplies redox species to the sensors and increases their electrochemical responses… Show more

“…For example, we developed a large-scale integration (LSI)-based amperometric sensor for electrochemical imaging, which was designated the Bio-LSI device. [57][58][59][60][61][62][63][64] This device was applied to the electrochemical evaluation and real-time monitoring of dopamine release from 3D-cultured PC12 cells 62 and ALP activity of EBs. 58 As shown in Fig.…”

“…(11) In addition to these devices, we developed a CMOS-based amperometric device, which we named the Bio-LSI device. (16)(17)(18)(19)(20) The amperometric device was applied to bioassays including cell analysis. For example, we successfully monitored the alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity in embryonic stem (ES) cells to evaluate the differentiation levels of these cells.…”
