Electromagnetic Modeling of Quasi-Square Open Metallic Ring Frequency Selective Surface Using Wave Concept Iterative Procedure

Abstract: The wave concept iterative procedure (WCIP) is used to analyze a quasi‐square open metallic ring frequency selective surface (FSS). The quasi‐square open metallic ring FSS is dual‐polarized. When the incident plane wave is polarized in a direction parallel to the FSS’ coupled parallel strips, it shows two rejecting bands. Moreover, another rejecting band can be obtained if the source plane wave is perpendicularly polarized with respect to the FSS’ coupled parallel strips. The three resonant frequencies are inv… Show more

“…The WCIP method is a full-wave iterative method whose formulation is based on the electromagnetic wave concept [9][10][11][12][13][14]. It is a method that has been widely used by many researchers worldwide in the analysis of different types of microwave circuits such as antennas, filters, and frequency selective surfaces (FSS), including printed circuits on textile substrates, as presented in recent studies [13,14].…”

“…Due to their resonant element type and shape, and other structural parameters, several papers were devoted to study improvements on the performance of FSS geometries, with the possibility of reducing their volume, to design multiband responses. Dual‐band spatial filter FSSs were studied by optimizing an eight‐legged element , using a simple quasi‐square open metallic ring , a U shaped and multilayered FSSs with two metallic square rings and a two rectangular conducting patch , or by utilizing a hexagonal element . For multiband applications, a four‐band FSS has been proposed by employing a double‐square‐loop patch element , or by a simple modification in a rectangular patch element .…”
