Electromagnetic Waves in Biaxially Anisotropic Media

Abstract

The article presents an overview of the wave behavior, governing equations, and some applications of biaxially anisotropic media. As this area of research matures, the governing behaviors described here will be of utmost importance to the understanding of device behavior. The biaxial nature of some manmade materials will be of increasing interest as we continue to manufacture materials to achieve unique electromagnetic behavior (metamaterials) and as the speed of communications increases over transmission lines on existing fabricated materials. This article is a review and a guide to the unique behavior of electromagnetic waves in biaxially anisotropic media.
