Electron energy levels in lithium niobate resulting from oxygen vacancies

Abstract: A study of the electronic levels associated with an oxygen vacancy in lithium niobate (LiNbO3) is reported. The semicontinuum model used in the F‐center problems in alkali halides is simplified to compute the energy levels of an electron trapped at an oxygen vacancy. Treating the crystal as an array of point charges the actual potentials of a point‐ion‐lattice of 810 ions are subsequently computed. The convergence of the lattice sums is demonstrated.
