Electron transport inLa100xAl

Abstract: Values of the electrical resistivity, temperature coefficient of resistivity, thermopower, and superconducting transition temperature for a series of Laioo "Al"metallic glasses prepared both as "splat-cooled"' foils and "melt-spun" ribbons are reported. Differences betvveen the two types of samples are discussed. %'e argue that the dominant contribution to the conductivity and thermopower is from La d states.

“…Samples for thermopower measurements are cut from the same block of a single crystal of YNi 2 B 2 C ͑LuNi 2 B 2 C͒ from which samples for the resistance measurements were cut. The cryostat used for thermopower measurements is similar to the one described earlier 50 but with some improvements in its design and automatic data collection. The differential temperature across the sample is measured using a calibrated 0.075 mm diameter Au 0.07 % Fe/chromel thermocouple.…”

“…The key of a realistic simulation is the interactions between atoms. The form of the potential we used is a Rosato-Guillope-Legrand (RGL) [112] type and it is in analogy to the TBSMA [110]. The equations of motion were integrated using the Verlet algorithm with integration step of 5 fs.…”
