Electronic properties of new quasi‐two‐dimensional organic conductors (BEDO‐TTF)5[MHg(SCN)4]2 (M = Rb, Cs) studied by IR reflectance spectroscopy at temperatures down to 10 K

Abstract: Polarized reflectivity and optical conductivity spectra of new quasi-two-dimensional organic conductors (BEDO-TTF) 5 [MHg(SCN) 4 ] 2 , where M = Rb, Cs, are studied over the spectral range 700 -6500 cm −1 at temperatures between 10 and 300 K. The Rb salt shows metallic behavior over the whole measured spectral and temperature range. For the Cs salt an unusual anisotropy of changes in the spectra of the conducting plane is observed with decreasing temperature. At low temperature this salt exhibits metallic beha… Show more

“…Replacing the outer four sulfur atoms in the BEDT-TTF molecules by oxygenwhich yields BEDO-TTFdoes not change the values U and V considerably. The 1/5-filled compound β‘ ‘-(BEDO-TTF) 5 [CsHg(SCN) 4 ] 2 is unique because it shows a nonmetallic temperature dependence of the dc conductivity in one direction of the plane, while in the perpendicular direction the conductivity σ( T ) remains metallic down to 4 K 27 Reflectivity and optical conductivity spectra of β‘ ‘-(BEDO-TTF) 5 [CsHg(SCN) 4 ] 2 for polarizations E parallel and perpendicular to the stacks at different temperatures T = 300, 200, 100, and 10 K. (From ref .)…”
