“…It could be that response components other than P2 (e.g., N1) may reflect different aspects of loudness processing and therefore are less, or even oppositely, affected. One of the rare studies combining context effects of loudness and neural responses found that the amplitude of the N1 deflection represents an electrophysiological correlate of the effects of nonsimultaneous masking on intensity resolution (Oberfeld, 2010), which possibly also indicates a direct relation between the AEP deflection amplitudes and loudness enhancement at short ISIs (Oberfeld, 2008). However, the temporal properties of loudness enhancement and ILR are different, suggesting possibly different underlying mechanisms affecting the two processes.…”
