Electrophysiological Evidence of Intuition: Part 1. The Surprising Role of the Heart

Abstract: Overall, we have independently replicated and extended previous research documenting prestimulus responses. It appears that the heart is involved in the processing and decoding of intuitive information. Once the prestimulus information is received in the psychophysiologic systems, it appears to be processed in the same way as conventional sensory input. This study presents compelling evidence that the body's perceptual apparatus is continuously scanning the future. To account for the results presented in Parts… Show more

“…To get closer to revealing the physiological mechanism of intuitive thinking, we investigated personality, psycho-emotional, functional and neurophysiologic characteristics of students engaged in cognitive activity. Our research broadens the concepts of thinking processes presented before in various scientific investigations [11,12].…”

“…The pupillary response occurs before mental processing begins, without stimulus recognition and without visual perception of the stimulus. As in the study of McCraty et al [19,20] the pupils constricted to positive images and responded with dilation to negative images, whether or not the images were visually available.…”

“…Rigorous experimental studies demonstrated that the heart and brain receive and process information about an event before the event actually happens [19,20]. Moreover, the physiological data showed that the heart appears to receive "intuitive" information a few seconds before the brain.…”

“…It has been noted that there are similar cells around the heart as found in the brain linked to cognition [171] the role of neurons and astrocytes in intercellular magnetic communication is still being explored [172].…”
