Elimination of Lily Symptomless Virus by In Vitro Scaling and Reinfection Rates under Various Culture Conditions in Korean Native Lilies

Abstract: The lily symptomless virus (LSV) is the most common virus in Korean native lilies and causes various types of damage to overall plant growth. This study was carried out to investigate the elimination rate of the LSV by the in vitro scale culture (scaling) method in Korean native lilies and to test reinfection rates of the LSV under several field culture conditions of bulb production. Four Korean native lilies (Lilium dauricum, L. distichum, L. lancifolium, and L. maximowitzii) were used and their scales were c… Show more

“…This is due to the stability, high productivity, and easy protein purification [28,82]. Consequently, the ID-ELISA method and IC-RT-PCR assays have been developed for efficient lily virus detection [104]. These methods were recommended for further control, surveys, and also to prevent lily infection by most of the viruses that occur in Lanzhou/Gansu Province and NingXia, the most important lily production areas in China [21,98].…”

“…Other lily-infecting viruses have been reported to occur only in some regions. In Korea, the incidence of LSV has reached an infection rate of 45.0% ( Kim et al, 2015 ). In China, LSV, CMV, and LMoV are also widely distributed in major lily-production regions including Gansu, Ningxia, Qinghai, Jiangsu, and Yunnan provinces.…”

“…Lilies native to Korea are part of the original species of Asiatic hybrids. Owing to their unique ornamental value, they can be used as cut flowers or for differentiation and gardening (Kim et al, 2015;RDA, 2021). Earlier, native lilies were propagated by seed propagation and scaling.…”
