Embedding Color Watermarks in Color Images

Abstract:

Robust watermarking with oblivious detection is essential to practical copyright protection of digital images. Effective exploitation of the characteristics of human visual perception to color stimuli helps to develop the watermarking scheme that fills the requirement. In this paper, an oblivious watermarking scheme that embeds color watermarks in color images is proposed. Through color gamut analysis and quantizer design, color watermarks are embedded by modifying quantization indices of color pixels … Show more

“…From Figure 11, it is visualized that the proposed method and Su et al 23 have highest NC values (1.0) for all extracted watermarks and hence outperforms the method of Chou and Wu 21 . The columns of Figure 11 show extracted watermarks from considered watermarked images and first three rows show the extraction of RTU logo while last three show extraction of aeroplane image using the proposed and considered methods of watermarking.…”

“…As per our best knowledge this is the first inline work to use the UCS along with ABC for effective color image watermarking method. The performance of the proposed method has been measured in terms of quality and robustness against different signal processing attacks and results are compared with the work of Chou and Wu 21 and Su et al 23 . The results validate that the proposed method is bet- ter than other methods for all the considered parameters except slight decay in JPEG compression and rotation attacks as compared to Su et al 23 .…”

“…That is, the locus of colors that are perceptually indistinguishable from a particular color forms a sphere around that color's coordinate with radius of JNCD. In Chou and Wu (2003), the perceptually lossless color quantization based on the fixed JNCD is simply designed to achieve the transparent watermarking scheme, where watermarks are embedded by modifying quantization indices of color pixels of the host image. As the step size of the uniform quantizer for all color pixels is thus determined in a way that the color difference between any two neighboring colors should not exceed the JNCD, the robustness of the color image watermarking scheme to various attacks is not satisfactory.…”

“…This characteristic of the human visual perception to color stimuli in the CIELAB color space was exploited to develop the watermarking scheme for color images (Chou and Wu, 2003). Watermarks were embedded by modifying quantization indices of color pixels in the host image.…”
