EMBRYOTOXICITY AND TERATOGENICITY OF FIPRONIL IN RATS (Rattus norvegicus)

Abstract: Teratogenic and embryotoxic effects of fipronil insecticide were studied following orally intubation of pregnant female rats. The animals were treated with different doses 1/10 LD 50 (2.1 mg/kg b.wt) and 1/30 LD 50 (0.7 mg/kg b.wt) at the 6 th to 15 th days of pregnancy (time of organogenesis). At the 20 th days of pregnancy, pregnant females were subjected to a caesarean section. The effect of the fipronil on fetal development was evaluated. Maternal weight gain decreased at 1/10 and 1/30 LD 50 of fipronil. T… Show more

“…Teratogenic development of chick embryo upon exposure of the mother to chlorantraniliprole, chlorpyrifos, cypermethrin, endosulfan, malathion and spinosad was also reported [63][64][65][66][67] . Moreover, increased fetal resorption and reduced number of live fetuses, along with skeletal abnormalities, were reported as signs of teratogenicity for fetuses of pregnant rats exposed on gestation day 6 through day 15 to chlorpyrifos 68 , cypermethrin 69,70 , dimethoate 69,71 , endosulfan 72 , emamectin benzoate 73 , fipronil 74 , and organophosphorus insecticides 75 .…”
