“…This is in line with the results of Caprara et al [13], who reported that the characteristics of this personality trait enable people to face depression and anxiety. These findings are similar to those reported in a paper by Likhachev et al [19] on personality profiles, whereby a high level of anxiety was reported in patients with dystonia, as well as increasing emotional instability and poor emotional control. Likewise, several authors [3,9,20,21] have detected increased anxiety, social phobia, perfectionism, and/or neuroticism in musicians.…”

“…As indicated by Mahaffey et al [30] in their study, certain clinical traits (perfectionism, sensitivity to anxiety, among others) increase the risk and chronicity of emotional disorders. Interestingly, these traits coincide with another type of dystonia, as mentioned previously [3,9,[19][20][21]. Furthermore, these authors suggest that the study of the clinical traits underlying emotional disorders is both relevant and valuable for predicting psychopathology.…”

“…At the same time, a positive impact of personality character on psychological wellbeing was found in patients with Parkinson's disease [90]. In contrast, the counter influence of psychosomatic reactions on pathological personality development has been observed in cases of atrial fibrillation ( n = 34) [88] as well as in study of nosogenic influences to social behaviour and psychological characteristics of personality in patients with dystonia ( n = 300) [91]. The analogous study of patients with histologically confirmed breast cancer ( n = 82) has established a correlation between nosogenic reactions and premorbid personal characteristics, and described various types of pathological personality development, from acquired hypochondria to posttraumatic growth phenomena [92].…”

“…Furthermore, they were more prone to develop alcohol dependence [ 20 ]. Patients with dystonia are more inclined to higher rates of emotional instability along with a reduced emotional control, increased suspiciousness and frustration, low mood levels, and reduced resistance to stress [ 21 ]. They have low self-esteem, isolate themselves [ 22 ], and develop social phobia [ 5 , 18 ].…”
