“…However, there are also some risks associated with early sowing such as early or mid-season dry spells or other bio-physical challenges whose impact on the crops could be severe as these might affect the crop when it is not well established [ 50 , 51 ]. This could be attributed to dry spells that are increasingly becoming a threat for maize yields in Nigeria [ 52 ].
