Empirical analysis of the influential factors of haze pollution in china—Based on spatial econometric model

Abstract: Based on spatial econometrics, this paper examines the impact of urbanization, coal consumption proportion, and traffic pressure on haze pollution and attempts to verify the environmental Kuznets curve hypothesis by using 30 provinces' panel data in China from 2003 to 2015. The global Moran's I index indicates the positive spatial correlation of haze pollution, and the local Moran's I index indicates the clustering phenomenon of haze pollution in local regions. This model shows that haze pollution has spatial … Show more

“…The Moran Scatterplot shows the observed value of each city and its surrounding cities, which are distributed in four quadrants—HH, HL, LL, and LH. The HH cluster and the LL cluster indicate a spatial association of similar values, and the HL and the LH cluster spatial association of dissimilar values (Anselin, 1996; Liu & Xia, 2019; Lukongo & Rezek, 2018). Details of spatial characteristics are shown in Figure 1.…”

“…This indicator is also known as the grain production centralization degree. It indicates the basic situation with respect to changes in regional grain production patterns, both horizontal and vertical, for each province or region (Lu and Mei, 2007). We use this indicator to evaluate the change in China's grain production pattern.…”

“…Grain production security is an important guarantee of national food security and relies on a reasonable production layout. Therefore, changes in grain production patterns have been the focus of many studies over a long period of time (Huang, 1995;Lu and Lv, 1997;Wu, 2000;Gao, 2005;Yin et al, 2006;Lu and Mei, 2007;Deng et al, 2013).…”

“…The Air Pollution Prevention and Control Action Plan issued by the government in September 2013 is the most stringent atmospheric governance action plan in China’s history. Since then, the central government has promulgated a number of rules and regulations for air pollution control [ 5 ], and local governments at all levels have reached a broad consensus to break regional administrative boundaries [ 6 ] and coordinate local haze prevention and control policies [ 7 , 8 ] to jointly control air pollution.…”
