Enabling a scalable service-oriented architecture with semantic Web Services

Abstract: A Duke, J Davies and M RichardsonService-oriented architectures (SOAs) aim to improve the ability of organisations to quickly create and reconfigure IT systems to support new and rapidly changing customer services. The key idea is to move away from monolithic systems, towards systems which are designed as a number of interoperable components, for enhanced flexibility and reuse. This paper will describe how semantic descriptions of such services can improve the service discovery and composition processes and mo… Show more

“…The use of semantic technology to describe, locate and create processes is explained by Davies et al [17], while Duke et al [18] describe a specific application of this approach. With this approach a portal can be used to rapidly create a new process and to manage existing processes.…”

“…For example, service-oriented architectures (SOAs) [7] and their corresponding web services offer dynamic methods that allow manufacturing enterprises to communicate with their suppliers and customers [4]. However, selecting the most appropriate recommendation technique is still a common challenge among numerous manufacturing enterprises.…”

“…SOA can be defined as a system in which resources are made available to other participants in the network as independent services that are accessed in a standardized way [2]. While potential benefits of SOA are clear, it raises new challenges in the management of DL service metadata, in particular, in dealing with service interoperability.…”
