Endoscopic septoplasty: Tips and pearls

Abstract: This article is designed to provide a step-by-step description of our endoscopic septoplasty technique and discuss its difficulties and technical tips. Endoscopic septoplasty comprises 10 steps: diagnostic endoscopy, subperichondral infiltration, left mucosal incision, dissection of the left subperichondral flap, cartilage incision (0.5 centimetre posterior to the mucosal incision), dissection of the right subperichondral flap, anterior cartilage resection, perpendicular plate dissection, dissection and resect… Show more

“…This is because the skin over which the incision is placed helps in protecting damage to the flap by instrumentation. It has also been mentioned that a good septal surgery (confirmed by DNE for complications) can absolutely help in improvement in the quality of life of all the patients 17,18 .…”

“…Standard Killian incisions are used for the majority of septal deviations. The incision is made along the least deviated site; however, some surgeons prefer using a same side approach for each patient 3 , 12 , 16 . In cases of an isolated posterior deformity, the incision can be placed immediately anterior to the deviation to prevent unnecessary flap dissection.…”

“…In the past 20 years, the functional and aesthetic results have been evaluated constantly and the technique has been advocated for correcting a severely deviated septum. 7,8 In the current study extracorporeal septoplasty surgery several technical options were used to create a straight septal plate and/or even a septal framework which needs usually the dimensions of 30 mm. in horizontal and 18-20 mm.…”
