Endourodynamics: A New Method for Evaluation of Bladder Function

Abstract: A prospective controlled study was performed in 16 patients comparing sequential cystometric examinations through an 8F double-Lumen catheter and a 15.9F Olympus flexible cystoscope. Similar urodynamic results were obtained in all cases. There were no statistically significant differences in the first urge to void, cystometric capacity, or voiding pressures measured with the two methods. The combination of flexible cystoscopy and cystometry permitted direct observation of the bladder neck during voiding. Funct… Show more

“…The standard flexible cystoscope could not be used to measure UPP because the opening of the working port is at the distal end, not on its lateral aspect as needed. Douenias and colleagues 45 demonstrated that endourodynamics gives reliable and accurate results. It allows assessment of the bladder neck during micturition (Figs.…”

“…This saves time and money and reduces patient discomfort. Douenias and associates, 45 who used endourodynamics in lieu of videourodynamics and cystoscopy, showed reduced procedure time, cost, and urethral manipulation. It is recommended to measure cystometric pressure initially, as overdistention during cystoscopy may result in an inaccurate measurement.…”
