A prospective controlled study was performed in 16 patients comparing sequential cystometric examinations through an 8F double-Lumen catheter and a 15.9F Olympus flexible cystoscope. Similar urodynamic results were obtained in all cases. There were no statistically significant differences in the first urge to void, cystometric capacity, or voiding pressures measured with the two methods. The combination of flexible cystoscopy and cystometry permitted direct observation of the bladder neck during voiding. Functional assessment of detrusor contraction was thus possible, along with simultaneous cystoscopic evaluation of the outlet.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
