Endovascular Angioplasty for Multi-Level Stenotic-Occlusive Lesions of the Femoral-Distal Arterial Bed in Cases of Stenotic-Occlusive Process of the Tibial Arteries

Abstract: Background. Occlusive-stenotic lesions of the lower extremity arteries are the second in the structure of cardiovascular diseases, after only coronary heart disease. Surgical treatment of patients with infrainguinal atherosclerotic lesions of the arterial segment is challenging in a number of cases. At the same time, revascularizing surgical interventions on the femoral-distal artery and especially on the tibial arteries in chronic critical ischemia is the only chance to avoid amputation of the lower limb. In … Show more

“…The makeshift stent is delivered from an accessible distant vessel, e.g., the femoral artery. As a result of the invention of this method, with the passage of time the results improved significantly due to the use of other types of stents, not makeshift ones, for the creation of which various commercial designs were developed, as well as updating the methods of delivering the artificial vessel to the required location [16]. After the development of this technique, most centres specializing in vascular surgery began to use EVAR for the treatment of AAA.…”

“…Atherosclerotic lesions of the arterial bed of the lower extremities rank close behind coronary heart disease, being second in the structure of cardiovascular diseases [1]. At the same time, stenotic-occlusive lesions of the infrainguinal arterial bed in 35-64.7 % of cases lead to the development of ischemia, which threatens the amputation of the lower limbs [2,3]. Treatment of patients with multilevel atherosclerotic lesions of the arterial bed of the lower extremities remains a rather complex and, in many cases, an unsolved problem [4,5].…”
