Energy loss at bends in the pneumatic conveying of fly ash

Abstract: An accurate estimation of the total pressure drop of a pipeline is important to the reliable design of a pneumatic conveying system. The present paper presents results from an investigation into the modelling of the pressure drop at a bend in the pneumatic conveying of fly ash. Seven existing bend models were used (in conjunction with solids friction models for horizontal and vertical straight pipes, and initial acceleration losses) to predict the total pipeline pressure drop in conveying fly ash (median parti… Show more

“…He applied this model for predicting the pressure drop for a 70-m long pipeline. Tripathi et al (2015) developed an equation of solid friction factor involving solids loading ratio and mean Froude number of the flow. The equation was applied for calculating the straight line pressure drop and subsequently calculating the bend pressure drop by deducting it from the total pressure drop.…”

“…Correlations presented by Weber (1981), Jones and Williams (2003), Mallick and Wypych (2007), Behera et al (2013) and Tripathi et al (2015) consist of only the dimensionless parameters gas Froude number and solids loading ratio which are the representation of flow parameters only. Setia et al (2016) and Setia et al (2017) included volumetric loading ratio and velocity ratio in the correlations which are also in terms of flow parameters only.…”

“…The results of this research can present better the usige of screw feeders for specific materials. In-works [9][10][11][12][13] it was conducted the experiment for determination influence of parameterswhich have the most influence on horizontal screw conveyers and also power consumption at transporting of grains. So, in works [14] it is adduced the results of researches saving transporting of agricultural materials on the horizontal and aslope located screw working parts, character of motion of stream of material at its loading [15] and overload ing [16], and also moving material by the vertical screws [17] which it is expedient to take into account during realization of researches of moving of stream of root crops and their cleaning.…”
