Energy Minimization in HARQ-I Relay-Assisted Networks With Delay-Limited Users

Abstract: This paper investigates a practical energy minimization problem for multiuser relay-assisted downlink cellular networks. The system adopts an hybrid-automatic-repeat-request of type I (HARQ-I) protocol and each user has an average delay constraint to be satisfied under a total power constraint for the system. The contribution of this paper lies in several folds: i) By introducing new constraints and new variables in the original problem, the solution is analytically obtained by the dual method. ii) An algorith… Show more

“…This problem is addressed considering capacity achieving codes with no HARQ and the Rayleigh channel in [40], [41]. Practical MCS with HARQ are considered in [42], [43], which consider the Rayleigh channel. In [42], the authors maximize the harmonic mean of the users' EE in a relay assisted networks when Type-I HARQ is considered.…”

“…Modeling the system with a Markov decision process, the authors derive optimal policies for truncated and persistent adaptive HARQ. An analysis using cooperation and simple HARQ is considered in [15], accounting for average delay constraints from a coding and modulation point of view. They propose a solution for power allocation and communication strategy that minimizes the overall power consumption of the system and their results show that the solution can reduce the overall energy consumption.…”
