Energy planning and management during battery manufacturing

Abstract: The aim of this study is to improve energy performance at a battery factory in Colombia by introducing the energy management approach defined in ISO 50001. In the study, the main energy consumptions were identified in the battery formation, the compressed air system and the large electric motors. An energy review was performed in the factory using measurement equipment and statistical techniques. Different actions were proposed to improve energy performance. As a result, a 3.48% reduction in electricity consum… Show more

“…Based on this behavior of the electrical power demand, the energy consumption in both conditions was calculated, as well as the energy losses when the TIM was powered by the PVS, applying equations ( 6), (7), and (8) as proposed by (Angarita et al, 2019). Egrid represents the energy consumed by the TIM when powered by the electric grid, expressed in watts (W).…”

“…They are a systematic documented procedure with the objective on minimize energy costs., without affecting production and quality by defining objectives, policies and procedures that will be are maintained and improved (Schulze et al, 2016;Kanneganti et al, 2017). ISO 50001, supports the guidelines to develop an EnMS, based in a flexible framework that allow companies to integrate energy efficiency systems into their management practices (Angarita et al, 2019). The model covers four steps: energy policy, energy Source: Prepared by the authors based on data from: (Benedetti et al, 2018;Šešlija et al, 2011;Saidur et al, 2010;UPME, 2013;UPME, 2014;UPME, 2014 planning, implementation and checking, based on de Deming Cycle (Plan-Do-Check-Act), all of them are incorporated into a continuous improvement cycle as is shown in Figure 2 ( Gopalakrishnan et al, 2014;ISO 50001, 2011;Correa et al, 2014).…”

“…Noriega Angarita et al (2019) realizan su estudio con el objetivo de mejorar el rendimiento energético en una fábrica de baterías en Colombia mediante la introducción del enfoque de gestión energética definido en ISO 50001. Los principales consumos de energía se identificaron en la formación de la batería, el sistema de aire comprimido y la gran red de motores eléctricos.…”
