Enhanced photodegradation of methylene blue with alkaline and transition‐metal ferrite nanophotocatalysts under direct sun light irradiation

Abstract: It is highly desired to synthesize low‐cost photocatalysts for the degradation of colored dyes to safeguard our environment for the future generations. Here, we report an extremely efficient and low‐cost synthesis of alkaline earth and transition‐metal ferrite photocatalysts (MgFe2O4, CaFe2O4, BaFe12O19, CuFe2O4, and ZnFe2O4) from their chloride salts and their applications for the degradation of methylene blue (MB) dye under UV–visible and direct sunlight irradiation. The as‐prepared photocatalysts displayed … Show more

“…An overall decrease in percent degradation was observed as the pH was raised to 10. This may be attributed to the positively charged surface of the TMS at lower pH 4 as reported earlier . A positively charged surface gives rise to a strong electrostatic attraction between the positively charged TMS surface and the ARS molecule leading to maximum photo‐degradation of ARS.…”

“…This may be attributed to the positively charged surface of the TMS at lower pH 4 as reported earlier. [59] A positively charged surface gives rise to a strong electrostatic attraction between the positively charged TMS surface and the ARS molecule leading to maximum photo-degradation of ARS. The surface of TMS is positively charged at a lower pH range and negatively charged at a high pH range.…”

“…Thus, we can say that * OH radical played a major role in the photocatalytic degradation of Allura Red AC comparative to the other active species. [134,135] In addition to this, position of the conduction band potential (E CB ) and the valence band potential (E VB ) were calculated using the equations (3,4) E VB ¼ XÀ E e þ 0:5 ðE g Þ…”

“…Since lower is the intensity of PL peak, lower is the charge recombination, we can conclude that loading of Au nanoparticles improves charge separation and 2AuZnO sample imparts the highest activity due to improved charge separation as compared to other samples. [ 46,47 ]…”
