“…In this context, 8-hydroxyquinoline (8QOH) and 8-hydroxyquinoline-5-sulfonic acid (8QSOH) occupy an important position in the large number of fluorescent metal complexes that have been studied in homogeneous solutions, solid state and normal and reverse micelles [10][11][12]. In most cases the complexes show a 2:1 ligand:metal stoichiometry, except for Al(III) where the complex is 3:1 and, in aqueous solutions 8QOH chelates readily precipitate and do not exhibit high quantum efficiency [10,[12][13][14][15][16][17]. In this regard, micellar solutions both increase solubility and fluorescent intensity [9,[13][14][15].…”

“…The analysis was performed using the absorbance at 325 nm and the fluorescence intensity at 364 nm alike as a function of [S], and the experimental data were fitted according to equations [1] and [2], respectively.…”

“…The two main fields of application of these compounds are metal ion extraction and fluorometric determination of metal ions because most of the metal oxinates exhibit fluorescence, whereas the ligand 8-HQ itself is nearly nonfluorescent whatever the medium. In this respect several studies were devoted to the improvement of the fluorogenic behavior of 8-HQ by using hydroorganic or microheterogeneous systems such as aqueous micellar media or vesicles rather than neat solvents as reaction media (1)(2)(3)(4).…”

“…Besides the total amount of cadmium, bio-available species of cadmium in the environment is the most movable and easiest to be assimilated by plants, animals as well as human beings, so that they are the most toxic species among all kinds of existing species of cadmium [2,3]. There are many methods for the determination of total amount of cadmium, such as atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS) [4,5,6], inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission or mass spectrometry (ICP-AES/MS) [7,8,9] and fluorescence spectrophotometry (FS) [10,11,12]. However, in some cases these methods have encountered some problems for accurate determination of trace amount of cadmium arising from large amount and very complicated matrix in real samples.…”
