Enhancement of Hydrogen Evolution from Water Photocatalysis Using Liquid Phase Plasma on Metal Oxide-Loaded Photocatalysts

Abstract: This study examined hydrogen evolution by water photocatalysis using liquid phase plasma on metal oxide-loaded photocatalysts. Metal-loaded TiO 2 nanocrystallites supported on mesoporous materials were introduced as photocatalysts. SBA-15 and MCM-41 mesoporous materials were applied as a support for the metal-loaded TiO 2 nanocrystallites. The photocatalytic activities of the photocatalysts were estimated for hydrogen production from water. Hydrogen was generated in the photodecomposition of water through liqu… Show more

“…The OES of the LPP was performed while the plasma was directly irradiating the reactants using a fiber optic spectrometer (Avante, AvanSpec-4500, Louisville, KY, USA). The OES spectra were gathered by placing an optical fiber perpendicular to the axis of the needle electrode [47]. The measurement conditions for gathering the spectrum were 3 µs pulse-width, 230 V discharge-voltage, and 35 kHz frequency.…”

“…Bimetallic oxide, as a metal oxide material composed of two different metals, has aroused extensive attention concerning many domains including photocatalysis, , dye degradation, , gas sensing, , and electrochemical sensing, ascribed to the numerous accessible metal active sites and inherent physical–chemical properties. In addition, because different types of metals usually endow target materials with specific functionality, most of the bimetallic oxides lead to enhanced performance because of the synergistic effect between two metals. ,, The common strategies to prepare bimetallic oxides include the sol–gel method, , coprecipitation, , and solvothermal and electrochemical deposition .…”

“…Recently, the synthesis of nanoparticles [19,20], production of hydrogen [21,22], and removal of organic contaminants in water [23,24] using plasma fields generated by glow discharge in water have attracted considerable research attention. Plasma in liquid process (PiLP) uses a plasma with electrons and active species to synthesize a range of nanoparticles and nano-metal oxide particle/carbon composites more easily and simply than conventional nanoparticle synthesis methods [25].…”
