Enhancement of Underwater Tribological Properties of Hybrid PTFE/Nomex Fabric Laminate Composites by Epoxy Resins

Abstract: Hybrid poly(tetrafluoroethylene) (PTFE)/Nomex fabric laminate composites were prepared with phenolic and epoxy resins. A pin-on-disc tribometer was used to perform tribological tests with different applied loads and rotational speeds. The wear surface, transfer film, and cross section were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and optical microscopy. The results showed that the epoxy resin with high strength and good binding properties can enhance underwater tribological and mechanical properties. Th… Show more

“…And when the addition of MP continued to increase, the water absorption energy of the resin composites increased instead because the excessive addition of MP led to agglomeration in EP, which improved the diffusion of water in the MP/EP composites instead. Therefore, appropriate nano‐filled particles with good dispersion can reduce the permeability of water vapor 49–51 . Further evidence that the presence of MP is advantageous for impeding the movement of EP polymer molecular chains 52 …”

“…Examples include new-type nylon, modified rubbers, reinforced phenolic resin, and so on. High-performance fiber fabric-reinforced resin composites combine the advantages of both fibers and resins, making them a high-strength, low-selflubricating bearing material [11][12][13]. It can be used in aviation, aerospace, shipbuilding, and so on.…”
