Spatial cognition is a pivotal consideration in hospital buildings. Potential circulation configuration alternatives in hospitals have been filtered to 59 significant alternatives, to be simulated using space syntax analyses for measuring connectivity, visual integration, and visual step depth. Best alternatives have been determined via comparison and correlation analysis. A survey has been conducted, comparing the preferences of professional architects with simulation outcomes. Results show that best and worst alternatives exist in triangular and circular buildings, respectively. Also, cul-de-sac corridors are argued to promote spatial cognition better than looped corridors. Notably, cognition is inversely proportional to the curvature of the circulation spaces, number of nodes, and the number of branches. The survey showed a weak perception of the best alternatives, while respondents have a better perception of highly visible locations in these alternatives.

In the urban context, the sustainable static approach has evolved into a resilient orientation, determined by the dynamic urban characteristics of the cities, especially with the increasing challenges such as rapid urbanization, the emergence of different uses at the expense of urban green spaces, neglecting the ecological role that these spaces provide. The research starts from the need for an urban landscape that provides ecologically resilient contributions, it adopts the evaluation of urban resilience concerning the ecological urban landscape, by studying a part of the city center of Basra -Iraq. It aims to formulate guidelines that support the ecosystem by developing a multilevel theoretical framework based on the urban resilience principles to increase the ability of these spaces to innovate and stay strong during long-term change. The current study focuses on providing comprehensive knowledge about the ecological mechanisms and indicators that achieve resilience in the context of the urban landscape, and then answers the research question about the relationship between ecological urban landscape and resilience from a morphological point of view. We based on space syntax theory, using the analysis program (Depth map) to measure the morphological indicators through the main streets network, then analyzing their spatial relations with the green and open spaces as an integrated urban landscape to complete the evaluation and provide conclusions that can be used with other samples.

Urban centers grow and expand gradually, and this growth is accompanied by renewal processes for many parts of these centers over time. Traditionally, conditions and needs developed slowly and cities often only changed greatly due to natural disasters or wars. However, with the acceleration of the Industrial Revolution and subsequent important technical transformations in transportation modes, a large, accelerating, and indisputable impact affected historical urban centers, which suffered many morphological changes represented by the intrusive opening of streets to the passage of vehicles with varying degrees of sympathy toward the characteristics of these centers. This research starts from the general hypothesis that street networks affected the changes in old urban centers represented by growth and urbanization and the accompanying change in how parts of this traditional fabric were used. Therefore, we need to have a clear and accurate perception of the change in the characteristics of the spatial organization of the urban and historical centers that resulted from these formal changes. This requires defining and describing the characteristics of this spatial organization before and after these changes occurred. The present research adopts the space syntax method to measure morphological changes and the historic center of Mosul in Iraq is chosen for the practical study due to the city's need for a development strategy that controls expansion and growth when rebuilding the city after the destruction that resulted from the military operations in the war with ISIS.
