Enhancing Photoluminescence Quantum Yield in 0D Metal Halides by Introducing Water Molecules

Abstract: Enhancing photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) is one of the most important issues in photoluminescent materials. Herein, a molecule design strategy to improve the PLQY in 0D metal halides is proposed. Two new lead‐free organic–inorganic metal halide hybrids with broadband orange emissions have been prepared with a PLQY increase of 57% from (C6N2H16)SbCl5 (I) to (C6N2H16)SbCl5⋅H2O (II) by introducing H2O molecules. These two compounds have very similar inorganic frameworks, except that the incorporation of w… Show more

“… 1 20 However, the major obstacle for future bioimaging material applications for perovskites is the poor stability in water due to their ionic nature. 21 43 As we and others have reported, CsPbX 3 perovskites decompose fast when exposed to water or kept in a moist environment. 28 40 As a result, enhancing the long-time stability of CsPbX 3 perovskites is the most important parameter to promote commercial applications.…”

“…PLQY and color rendering index of TDMPPbBr 4 could be further increased to 60% and 96 upon trace amount of Mn 2+ doping (27). Despite recent advances in singlesource white-light emission lead halides (28)(29)(30)(31)(32)(33)(34), the toxicity of Pb and the relatively low PLQY will notably hinder their future applications. Therefore, research on high-performance white emissive lead-free halides is of substantial importance; however, it is still in its infancy and remains to be thoroughly explored (35).…”

“…31,32 The valence band and conduction band of (DTA) 2 Cu 2 I 4 are near flat, indicating the strong confinement effect for 0D OIMHs. 33 As shown in Figure 3b, the projected density-of-states (DOS) of their crystals show that the valence band of (DTA) 2 Cu 2 I 4 are contributed by Cu 3d and I 5p states, while the conduction band is contributed by Cu 4s states. Figure 2c, d show the charge densities of the valence band maximum (VBM) and conduction band minimum (CBM) are mainly distributed within the inorganic Cu−I clusters, respectively, indicating a zero electronic dimensionality and can explain the high quantum yields that has been found in experiments.…”
