Prunus serrulata is a species widely used in the ornamentation and its economic importance is mainly due to the time of its flowering. The objective was to assess the feasibility of cutting technique for propagating P. serrulata , using stem cuttings from current-year shoots, and to estimate the maximum efficiency concentration of auxin indole butyric acid (IBA), in the promotion of rooting. Collection of plant material took place in late spring. Cuttings were made with about 8±1cm length and two leaves reduced to 50% of its original surface. Twenty one IBA concentrations have been assessed (0, 250, 500, 750, 1000, 1250, 1500, 1750, 2000, 2250, 2500, 2750, 3000, 3250, 3500, 3750, 4000, 4250, 4500, 4750 e 5000mg L-1), applied in base of cuttings, which were placed in acclimatized greenhouse. After 60 days, there was a gradual increase in the rooting percentage compared to the increment of IBA to the approximate concentration of 2700mg L-1, with results higher than 80%. In addition, low efficiency concentrations of growth regulators have resulted in fewer roots per cutting, which could compromise the survivability of the seedlings under ambient conditions. Conversely, the decrease in the percentage of callus may be an indication that root formation in P. serrulata occurs directly, without requiring callus formation and its further de-differentiation and re-differentiation in roots.

RESUMO A erva-mate é conhecida por seu uso na forma de infusões, como chás e chimarrão. Porém, há um vasto campo de aplicação desta espécie, principalmente na indústria de cosméticos e medicamentos. Um dos fatores limitantes à clonagem comercial de erva-mate é a falta de métodos eficientes de rejuvenescimento de material adulto. Propágulos juvenis podem ser obtidos por meio de anelamento ou decepa de árvores adultas. Desta forma, o objetivo deste trabalho foi verificar a capacidade de enraizamento de estacas oriundas de brotações de 12 meses de idade provenientes de anelamento e decepa de árvores de erva-mate com 17 anos e mais de 80 anos, realizados no inverno/2006 e verão/2007 e tratadas com ácido indol butírico (AIB), nas concentrações de 0 e 3000 mg.L-1. O plantio foi realizado em caixas plásticas preenchidas com vermiculita e casca de arroz carbonizada na proporção de 1:1 (v/v) e após 90 dias em casa de vegetação, foram avaliadas as seguintes variáveis: porcentagem de estacas enraizadas, número de raízes/estaca, comprimento das três maiores raízes/estaca, porcentagem de estacas vivas, com calos e mortas. O enraizamento não foi influenciado pela origem da brotação (anelamento ou decepa). Porém, as brotações obtidas das matrizes mais jovens, assim como aquelas coletadas no verão, apresentaram melhores resultados. Concluiu-se que a estaquia realizada com brotações rejuvenescidas por anelamento ou decepa é uma técnica viável para a otimização do enraizamento de estacas de erva-mate.

The propagation of gabirobeira is carried out by seeds. However, the recalcitrance and not tolerance of the seeds to the storage compromise the formation of seedlings. Thus, the propagation by cuttings can be an option, being able to provide significant results in different seasons. The objective of this work was to evaluate the vegetative propagation by stem cuttings of two species of gabirobeira (Campomanesia adamantium and Campomanesia pubescens) associate to indolbutyric acid (IBA) at differents seasons of the year. Cuttings of the two species were obtained in the 4 seasons and concentrations of 0, 2000, 4000, 6000 and 8000 mg L-1 of IBA were used, by immersion in the solution for 15 seconds and sequentially staked on trays containing a sand substrate. Sixty days after experiments were set it was evaluated the percentage of cuttings with shoots, live cuttings, dead cuttings, cuttings with calluses and rooted cuttings. A completely randomized design with 5 treatments, 4 replicates and 8 cuttings per plot was adopted. During the whole experiment, the greenhouse, substrate and cutting leaves temperature was monitored. The use of IBA did not promote adventitious rhizogenesis, but provided a high percentage of survival for the species Campomanesia adamantium and Campomanesia pubescens by stem cuttings during the spring season.
