The study aimed to identify and analyze measures used in manufacturing enterprises to protect workers from COVID-19 infection and maintain business continuity. Measures were identified based on literature studies, recommendations presented in the guidelines of international and national organizations, information from manufacturing companies, and the study authors’ expertise. Measures were classified into five groups. A survey was conducted using a mixed model Computer Assisted Web Interview/Computer Assisted Telephone Interview (CAWI/CATI) on a representative group of 600 manufacturing companies in Poland. Measures were analyzed according to the occurrence or non-occurrence of COVID-19 in the enterprise. It was confirmed that the vast majority of identified measures were being applied, and enterprises implemented other solutions developed in-house. Legal and regulatory measures, individual protective measures, and protective measures for groups of workers were mainly applied at similar levels, both in the occurrence or non-occurrence of COVID-19. The implementation measures of work organization and production organization are mostly higher in enterprises without COVID-19. The proposed approach can be the basis for developing a methodology for studies of crisis events of a similar nature. The results can be used to select and implement a set of measures for an individual enterprise.

PurposeThis study aimed to (1) identify supply chain risks faced by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in food businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic and (2) investigate the business continuity management (BCM) strategies employed by organisations during the COVID-19 pandemic.Design/methodology/approachSemi-structured interviews were conducted, involving eight SMEs in the Malaysian food industry. Their responses were analysed using a thematic analysis.FindingsThe thematic analysis indicated that supply risks, demand risks, operational risks, logistics risks and financial risks were amongst the challenges that the respondents faced during the COVID-19 pandemic. It also provided evidence which showed the importance of flexibility, redundancy and collaboration to avoid or reduce the impact of such risks.Originality/valueThis paper fills the void in the literature by exploring the BCM practices amongst SMEs in the food businesses of a developing country, during the COVID-19 disruptions. Previous studies in the area had mainly focused on large organisations.

The COVID-19 pandemic which increased rapidly in early 2020 causes losses that can result in companies going out of business. To overce this, it is necessary to have a management system that manage continuity of the Business. Business Continuity Management System (BCMSS) is one of system management for employer to take an action a business continuity. However, there are still industries that have not implemented Business Continuity Management System (BCMS). Therefore, the purpose of this research is to see the difference in the impact of industries that apply and do not apply BCMS during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study uses the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review & Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) method with inclusion criteria, namely articles that answer research, are published, use Indonesian or English, and were written in the last two years. The impacts on industries that implement BCMS are maintaining business continuity, returning to normal industrial conditions, mitigating disruptions, and reducing COVID-19 transmission. The impacts on industries that do not implement BCMS are labor problems, economic problems, and disruption of the supply chain. There is a significant difference between industries that implement BCMS and industries that do not apply BCMS where industries that apply BCMS can maintain business continuity.
