Purpose This paper aims to study the elements of social protection, namely, the labour market policy (working conditions), social insurance and social assistance from the law and policy standpoints to safeguard the rights and welfare of the frontline health-care workers (HCWs). Design/methodology/approach This study applies both doctrinal and non-doctrinal research methods with the legal and authoritative approaches by integrating the three elements of social protections, which are working conditions, insurance protection and social assistance for the protection of HCWs. Findings A pragmatic approach to the social protection system by integrating these elements can safeguard the rights and welfare of the frontline HCWs amid the pandemic. This approach should be made effective for the sustainability of the HCW and health industry in Malaysia. Practical implications This paper highlights the significance of initiating and empowering ad hoc approaches through the social protection system for the practical and effective protection of frontline HCWs who are the backbone of the nation, in the event of pandemic COVID-19. These practical needs and approaches are pivotal in response to HCWs demands in workplace. Originality/value While social protection commonly aims to address disadvantaged groups and to combat poverty, this research adopts the social protection approach with the aims to safeguard the rights and welfare of frontline HCWs amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The employees resilient seemed changed after pandemic that affected social support at workplace due to Work from Home (WFH) being as a new remote working system for almost 2 years. In Malaysia, the government announced that the servant needs to work in office as usual early of 2022. The resilience among employees might be affected while keep changing the social support system. Thus, this study tries to reveal the extent of social support and the factors contribute among employees in Social Security Organization (SOCSO) in Kedah. The chosen of this agency regards to essential services due to social security affected the most wellbeing of employees due to COVID-19. The method of quantitative through survey used in this study and the findings shows that social, emotional, information and tool have positive relationship with the social support towards the employee's resilience. In recommendations, there is a room for improvement especially in tool support and the facilities in digital technology to be fully utilised. In future research, perhaps the future researchers will have wider scope of respondents, methods, and area to gain more findings that can generalize to employee resilience among employee in Malaysia at large.

Akta Orang Kurang Upaya 2008 yang berkuat kuasa pada 7 Julai 2008 menunjukkan komitmen negara untuk membantu golongan orang kurang upaya (OKU). Objektif akta ini yang mengiktiraf kepentingan kebolehcapaian OKU terhadap persekitaran fizikal, sosial, ekonomi dan budaya, kesihatan dan pendidikan serta maklumat dan komunikasi yang membolehkan mereka upaya mengambil bahagian secara penuh dan berkesan dalam masyarakat. Hak OKU tidak boleh dilihat secara berasingan dengan prinsip hak asasi manusia. Hak asasi manusia dalam perspektif yang lebih luas telah menjadi semakin penting dalam dunia hari ini. Akta ini telah berjaya menukar konsep kebajikan kepada konsep hak bagi golongan OKU di Malaysia. Walaupun akta ini boleh disifatkan sebagai menyokong hak OKU, akta tersebut masih lemah dari segi penguatkuasaannya, walaupun telah digubal 14 tahun yang lalu. Oleh itu, makalah ini akan mengkaji dan membincangkan secara kritis perkembangan perundangan mengenai golongan OKU di Malaysia. Perkara ini berdasarkan fakta bahawa undang-undang merupakan komponen penting dalam usaha merealisasikan hasrat untuk melihat golongan OKU dilayan secara adil seperti individu yang berkeupayaan. Konsep kesaksamaan ini bukanlah sesuatu yang baharu kerana akta ini termaktub sebagai kebebasan asasi yang telah dijamin oleh Perlembagaan Persekutuan.
