During the past years, the data deluge that prevails in the World Wide Web has been accompanied by a number of APIs that expose business logic. In this paper, we discuss a novel approach to enrich existing API standards definitions with business rules. Taking advantage of the REST principles, we aim at enabling the creation of generic clients that can dynamically navigate through semantically enriched web affordances with the help of Hydrabased Hypermedia API descriptions, which encapsulate the finite state machine of possible actions into SWRL rules.

The growing interest toward renewable energies and alternative energy sources has led to the development of an increasingly complex district energy landscape with multiple agents and systems. In this new prospect, some frameworks such as USEF [1] or holonic multi-agent systems [2] propose new approaches, where, in the way of a Virtual Organisation Breeding Environment (VOBE) [3], diverse organizations cooperate on a long-term basis to run an energy system. This study focuses on the THERMOSS project, an EU-funded project that investigates the efficient operation of district heating and cooling networks, and demonstrates that such organisation can be integrated into the Collaborative Networks (CNs) paradigm. Additionally, a semantic approach is briefly introduced as a mean to support and improve data transfer and communication between the different entities of THERMOSS as a CN.

This paper presents OPENi's Personal Cloudlets framework as a novel approach to enhancing users control and privacy over their data on a data driven, cloud-based platform.We introduce the EU FP7 funded project OPENi, the OPENi concept, and the research objectives that influenced the design and implementation of OPENi's Personal Cloudlet Framework. We outline OPENi's architecture and describe how through the use of REST based endpoints, object-based access control, OPENi Types, and stateless JSON Web Token (JWT) it allows users share, reuse, and control access to their data across many mobile applications while maintaining cloud scalability. Furthermore we describe how a number of the Personal Cloudlet Framework's features enhance a users privacy and control, including: the User Dashboard, the Privacy Preserving Data Aggregator, and the fine grained access control mechanism.
