Mass media cannot cure virus but can cure its spread. Framing of news stories in the Nigerian media (newspapers) is much more influenced by the economic motive of the journalists; picking news angle that arouses readers' interests in order to sell more copies in the keen competitive media market. The 2014 Ebola outbreak is a litmus test of how Nigerian media framed health issues, which depict the news perspective most interest to them. Through content analysis of two daily newspapers reports of Ebola during the outbreak in Nigeria, this study established the framing patterns employed while reporting as well as the preponderant frames used. The outcome is used to justify the priority upheld between the competing newspapers interests to sell and the media social responsibility towards containing the outbreak. The much capitalisation on treatment/containment frame portrayed the newspapers purposive interest to free the society of the outbreak, a reflection of its social responsibility role. The priority, which pose no threat on the professionalism of journalism was not only much appraised but also recommended for all media involvement in crisis reports.

Professional nursing identity: a perspective through the brazilian printed media lenses

Objective: To analyze the historical events of the nursing profession presented by the Brazilian print media and that were configured as important in the (re/des) construction of the professional identity, from 1980 to 1986. Method: Qualitative research with a documental historical nature guided by historical investigation process, using 80 articles published in newspapers of great national circulation. Results: They portrayed the nursing struggles and representative entities to improve working conditions, the highlights for intercurrences in the nursing area, as well as the media portrayal of the stereotype of nursing at the time. Conclusion: The stereotypes traced by print media result in a double impact on nursing and its professional identity. On the one hand, it adds visibility to the struggles and gains of the category, and on the other, it generates devaluation by portraits of intercurrences in the exercise of the profession without pertinent contextualization and explanation of the facts that approached and resulted in such an event.

Resumo: Este trabalho tem como objetivo descrever o perfil da população brasileira que nunca foi ao dentista. Para tanto foram utilizados os dados da Pesquisa Nacional de Saúde (PNS) realizada em 2013. Os resultados mostram que 11,3% da população brasileira com 18 anos ou mais nunca procuraram atendimento odontológico. Destes, a sua maioria é homem, com idade entre 25 e 59 anos, não branco, reside na região nordeste do país e possui baixa escolaridade. Sabendo-se que a Engenharia Biomédica contribui para a gestão do parque tecnológico biomédico dentro do âmbito assistencial de saúde, esse estudo traz considerações importantes para o desenvolvimento de políticas e tecnologias em saúde bucal, dentro e fora de hospitais. Palavras-chave: Saúde Bucal, Pesquisa Nacional de Saúde, Dentista. . É a maior cavidade do corpo a ter contato direto com o meio ambiente, sendo a porta de entrada para bactérias e outros microrganismos prejudiciais à saúde [3]. Uma saúde bucal deficiente reflete nos vasos sanguíneos, nas articulações e em órgãos que aparentemente não mantêm íntimo contato com os dentes, como o estômago, os pulmões e o coração [4]. Os dentes, lábios, gengivas, bochechas e língua são muito vulneráveis à ação de bactérias, vírus e fungos, que podem desencadear infecções causadoras de grandes desconfortos [5]. Portanto, ir ao dentista regularmente é de extrema importância para a saúde das pessoas, visto que as infecções na boca podem atingir outros órgãos do corpo e levarem a grandes complicações [6]. Os serviços que visam à saúde bucal brasileira não são capazes de atender à grande procura, promovendo assim, oportunidades cada vez menores para a prática da detecção, prevenção, tratamento e um diagnóstico precoce de doenças da boca [7] [8]. A odontologia foi durante muito tempo uma das áreas da saúde com maior exclusão social, menos equilibrada e coletiva [9]. Um dos objetivos dos serviços públicos de saúde odontológica é diminuir os efeitos das desigualdades observadas em relação à saúde bucal [10].
