Show more

“…As Figure 13 shows, its advantages are particularly pronounced at HNO 3 concentrations above 75%, where it is superior to stainless steels of all other types [50]. In the meantime a variant has been developed for extremely severe HNO 3 exposure (5.3 wt% Si, 17.5 wt% Ni, 0.015 wt% C) [51].…”

“…The SEM photographs of the face of a heat exchanger tube made of X 1 CrNiSi 18 15 4 which was subjected to boiling, highly concentrated nitric acid for 60 d showed evidence of line-type corrosion. The sides of the corrosion crevices are coated with several layers of the corrosion product SiO 2 [9,48]. Selective corrosion caused by differences in concentration can be reduced by homogenizing heat treatment or by laying one weld pass over the edges of sheets and tubes.…”

“…In the high-silicon austenitic chromiumnickel special steel X 1 CrNiSi 18 15 4, which has high resistance to concentrated nitric acid [45][46][47], susceptibility to intergranular corrosion depends on the separation of a carbide M 23 C 6 and on a p phase of type M 11 (C, N) 2 , containing chromium, nickel, silicon, carbon, and nitrogen [48].…”
