“…Successful detection and/or confirmation of E. coli isolates from various water samples employing fluorogenic substartes is well documented (O'Toole & Chang, 1999;Prats et al, 2008). The results reported in this study using Fluorocult  LMX broth showed 90% and 96% accurate identification of E. coli isolates from clinical and environmental sources respectively, with no statistical significant difference (P  0.5, χ 2 ) (Table 4), these results consistent with results reported elsewhere from investigation on water and food (Suwansonthichai & Rengpipat, 2003;Abulreesh et al, 2004;Nikaeen et al, 2009). Of the 200 E. coli isolates examined in this study, 14 isolates were not identified by Fluorocult  LMX broth, four of these isolates were also not identified as E. coli by API 20E (Table 5).…”

“…CFUs were counted and expressed per gram of sample after logarithmic conversion. The coliform and E. coli assays followed Sasithorn and Sirirat [30] using 1 mL of masticated tissue liquid plated on 3 M Petrifilm no. 6414 (St. Paul, MN), and the plates were incubated at 37°C for 24 h in duplicate.…”

“…Most probable number (MPN) method was used to detect the coliforms in apple juice (Suwansonthichai and Rengpipat, 2003). In the pre-fermentation test, samples were diluted into three appropriate series, and 1.0 mL of each diluted (or non-dilute) samples was inoculated in triplicate tubes of 10 mL lauryl sulfate tryptose (LST) broth (Beijing Luqiao Biological Technology Co. Ltd., Beijing, China).…”
