The elements of the supply and environmental chain are identified and connected through an operations research process. A framework is developed to include these chains into a process that deals with operations research problems within two different, complex areas: economic (supply) and natural systems (environmental), and emphasizes the influence of the solution on both systems and their performance. The framework helps researchers to get a better insight into the issues considering both environmental and industry aspects. The study proposes a causal relationship between the supply chain and environmental chain and begins to make a bridge between these two chains using operations research methods and techniques. In this context, a multi-period scenario-based stochastic model is developed. To deal with the uncertainties and to investigate the trade-offs between the objective functions, an interactive fuzzy multi-objective method is performed. In the case study section, reconcilement of the conflicting objectives in a waste management case is questioned and the future recommendations are highlighted.

Operations research is becoming increasingly prevalent in the natural resource sector, specifically in agriculture, fisheries, forestry and mining. While there are similar research questions in these areas, e. g., how to harvest and/or extract the resources and how to account for environmental impacts, there are also differences, e.g., the length of time associated with a growth and harvesting or extraction cycle, and whether or not the resource is renewable. Research in all four areas is at different levels of advancement in terms of the methodology currently developed and the acceptance of implementable plans and policies. Solving a bi-criterion fractional stochastic programming using an existing multi criteria decision making tool demands sufficient efforts and it is time consuming. There are many cases in financial situations that a nonlinear fractional programming, generated as a result of studying fractional stochastic programming, must be solved. Often management is not in needs of an optimal solution for the problem but rather an approximate solution can give him/her a good starting for the decision making or running a new model to find an intermediate or final solution. To this end, this author introduces a new linear approximation technique for solving a fractional stochastic programming (CCP) problem. After introducing the problem, the equivalent deterministic form of the fractional nonlinear programming problem is developed. To solve the problem, a fuzzy goal programming model of the equivalent deterministic form of the fractional stochastic programming is provided and then, the process of defuzzification and linearization of the problem is presented. A sample test problem is solved for presentation purposes. There are some limitations to the proposed approach: (1) solution obtains from this type of modeling is an approximate solution and, (2) preparation of approximation model of the problem may take some times for the beginners.
