“…While the leachate strength (COD: 9095 mg L -1 ; BOD: 3114 mg L -1 ; NH 3 : 1400 mg L -1 ) was on the higher range of those reported in the literature, similar, and at times better, attenuation was achieved, albeit with the relatively lower HRT and SRT. Zouboulis et al (2001) improved the SBR performance by adding enzymes, whereby removal rates of COD, BOD, and NH 3 increased to 40, 70, and 60%, which were still lower than the efficiencies obtained in this study (47,82, and 71.4%, respectively). Although they used a notably lower strength leachate (COD: 1396 vs. 9095 mg L -1 , and NH 3 : 579 vs. 1400 mg L -1 ), Aziz et al (2011) managed to raise the COD removal from 27 to 50% with the application of the double react-settle scenario.…”

“…They also show the ability to remove BOD 5 and COD. The ability of these enzymes to degrade a variety of industrial pollutants, environ-mental pollutants, and leachate was also supported by the previous studies 4,28 . Ligninolytic enzymes that produced by G. australe are haemoproteins with an exceptional broad substrate spectrum that include organic and inorganic compounds.…”

“…Biological treatment is often chosen due to its reliability, simplicity, and high costeffectiveness 3 . In addition, biological processes based upon suspended-growth biomass have been proved to be effective in removing organic carbon and nutrients content 4 . However, some problems have been encountered.…”

“…17,223,262,266 Strong et al 223 bioaugmented atrazine-contaminated soil with a genetically engineered E. coli strain that overproduced the atrazine chlorohydrolase enzyme responsible for dechlorinating atrazine. The researchers chemically killed the genetically engineered microorganisms (GEMs) prior to addition to a field site reducing regulatory concerns.…”
