“…Their age ranged from 14-70 years, the mean age for males being 45.84 years while the mean age for females was 39 years. Mizukosh et al [4] showed that the age distribution peaked at 40-49 years for males, while the peak for females was around 30-39 years [5]. While the age of our patients were similar to elsewhere, we observed a male preponderance which is different from the equal male:female ratio [4] shown in the world literature.…”

“…In Japan, the Ménière's Disease Research Committee, supported by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, performed a large-scale epidemiologic study between 1974 and 1976 [2] . It reported a lack of familial occurrence, a higher prevalence of the disease among professionals or engineers than among nonprofessional workers, farmers, or fi shermen, and no difference in environmental factors between patients and control subjects [2] . These results suggest that personal factors, more than environmental factors, are related to the onset of Ménière's disease.…”

“…The prevalence of Ménière's disease ranges from 20 to 80 individuals per 100,000 population, even in developed countries [1][2][3][4][5][6] . It is diffi cult to assess whether this wide variation in statistics results from true differences in the incidence of the disease or from differences in the investigational methods.…”
