Abstract: Portal venous phase CT appeared sensitive in diagnosing MVT. As activated protein C resistance was a strong risk factor, lifelong anticoagulation should be considered.

“…Procalcitonin was recently identified as another possible, but again non-specific, marker of intestinal ischemia and necrosis [13]. In mesenteric venous thrombosis, elevated D-dimers can support the clinical suspicion of a coagulation disorder [4].…”

“…In contrast to mesenteric ischemia caused by arterial occlusion, systemic coagulation disorders are the most common cause of mesenteric venous thrombosis, which affects the superior mesenteric vein in the great majority of cases [4]. Thrombosis can also occur as a result of malignancy or "inflammation", especially under conditions of stress due to trauma or major (e.g., cardiac) surgery [5].…”

“…MVT accounts for 1 in 5000 to 15 000 inpatient admissions and 1 in 1000 emergency surgical laparotomies for acute abdomen. 1 The incidence of MVT has increased over the past 40 years, likely as a result of the greater use of abdominal CT. 2 Age at presentation varies, depending on the underlying pathogenesis of MVT, although it is most common in the fifth and sixth decades of life. There is a slight male predominance.…”

“…Tanı koymada klinik şüphe önemlidir. [1][2][3] Mezenterik ven trombozu genellikle hiperkoagülasyon bozuklukları ile birlikte görülür. Tüm tromboz olaylarının yaklaşık %40'ında kalıtımsal trombofililer sorumlu tutulmaktadır.…”
