“…Electronmicroscopic dem onstration of nuclear virus, which belongs to the papova virus group (Melnick, 1962), ascertains th at the condition is just a particular type of verruca plana, which was generalized in a special immunologic state and/or predisposition of the patient. The fact th at generalization of verruca plana follows a severe illness in most cases (Sullivan and Ellis, 1939) also conforms to the case presented, in which congenital cyst of the left lung and epiphyseal dysplasia of the long bones are accompanied with the condition.…”

“…The often observed depression in cellular immune response could be secondary due to widespread viral infection or some unknown factor. Finally, it is shown that the data are compatible with autosomal recessive inheritance, and also that this disorder is not rare among the Japanese as has been stated in the previous report (6). If this hereditary pattern is correct, more than 10 times higher percentage of consanguineous marriage occurring in the Japanese population compared with that in Europe and America could explain this phenomenon.…”

“…Epidermodysplasia verruciformis (EV), a rare lifelong cutaneous disorder associated with a high-risk of skin cancer, was first described by Sullivan and Ellis in 1939. 1 It is characterized by flat wart-like lesions with scaly hyper-or hypo-pigmentation or by seborrheic keratosis-like lesions, which usually manifest on the face, trunk, and extremities. EV results from an abnormal susceptibility to specific human papillomavirus (HPV) genotypes and to the oncogenic potential of some of them, particularly HPV5 and HPV8.…”
