Epoxy/poly(ɛ‐caprolactone) nanocomposites: Effect of transformations of structure on crystallization

Abstract: The influence of morphology of the epoxy/poly(E-caprolactone) (PCL) system and corresponding nanocomposites with organophilized layered silicate on PCL crystallization was studied by differential scanning calorimetry, scanning, and transmission electron microscopy. The results obtained indicate a significant affecting of nonisothermal PCL crystallization by phase morphology brought about by the reaction-induced phase separation (RIPS) influenced either by various nanoclay contents or the epoxy/PCL ratio. Dispe… Show more

“…using the melting enthalpy for PCL ( ΔH i , D ) obtained by the deconvolution. The melting enthalpy of the completely crystalline PCL, ΔH PCL o , and PCL mass fraction, w PCL , in the blend were 139.3 J g −1 (as previously reported) and 0.33, respectively. ΔHi=ΔHi0witalicnp xc=ΔHi,DwPCLΔHPCLo …”

“…The difference of the samples containing PLA from neat PCL is insignificant. The PCL/PLA interface apparently suppresses negative effect of the filler on quality of PCL crystallites[25]. T m of PCL/C15 is lower than that of PCL/PLA (α ≥ 0.99) and also than that of remaining two samples (α ≥ 0.95).…”

“…The crystallization behavior including nucleation mechanism, Tc, Tm, crystallinity (Xc), crystal orientation and crystallization rate are significantly altered by these two effects, determining the ultimate properties of PNCs. Therefore, the Heat Flow, Endo Up (mW) crystallization of polymers confined by nanofillers has become a hot research topic for both scientific and industrial communities in the last two decades [281][282][283][284][285][286][287][288][289][290][291][292][293][294][295][296][297][298][299][300].…”
