The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between social appearance anxiety and body perception of national team level weightlifting athletes. A total of 104 people, n=58 males and n=46 females, who were athletes in national weightlifting teams, participated in the study. The relationships between social appearance anxiety and body perceptions of national team level weightlifting athletes who concentrated on weight training for a long time were compared according to height and body weight, gender, educational status, marital status and age groups. In the study, the Social Appearance Anxiety Scale consisting of 16 one-dimensional items adapted into Turkish by Doğan (2010) was used to measure individuals' social appearance anxiety. In order to measure the body perception of individuals, the Body Perception Scale consisting of 40 items, whose Turkish validity and reliability studies were conducted by Hovardaoğlu (1992), was used. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 22 package program. The data belonging to the variables of the participants were analyzed descriptively, the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test for normality tests, the Indepented T test and the Pearson Correlation test were used to determine the relationship. In the findings of the study, no significant difference was observed when body perception and social appearance anxiety total score were compared according to gender, educational status, marital status (p>0.05). There is a highly significant negative correlation between the participants' body perception and social appearance anxiety (p=0.0001). According to the table, there is no significant difference in the body perception and social appearance anxiety total score comparison of the participants according to age groups (p>0.05). As a result of the study, it is seen that the body perception of weightlifters is at a good level and social appearance anxiety is at a low level. It is seen that there is a highly significant negative relationship between body perception and social appearance anxiety of the participants. It is concluded that as the body perception level of the participants increases, social appearance anxiety decreases.
