Esophageal stricture secondary to candidiasis without underlying disease

“… 6 Clinical diagnosis is based on characteristic symptoms in at-risk patients, with endoscopic findings of white plaque-like membranes in the esophagus; definitive diagnosis is contingent on biopsy findings of Candida . 1 The acute phase of esophagitis involves mucosal erythema with white pseudomembranes consisting of necrotic debris and fungal species, which progresses to granulated friable mucosa and ulcers. 6 Stricturing may result from ongoing inflammation.…”

“…Our patient had neutropenia for a long time and suffered from recurrent infection and complications including bronchiectasis, esophageal candidiasis and adhesive tympanic membrane, although he received the appropriate antibiotics and G-CSF. However, recurrent esophageal candidiasis induced mucosal glandular inflammation and resulted in stricture formation [ 2 ].…”

No obstante, en otras series, se describen pacientes a los que [8][9][10] . En este trabajo se consideró criterio de exclusión patologías reconocidamente inmunosupresoras y, a partir de ello, se efectuó un completo estudio inmunológico humoral y celular.…”
