“…A proof of the structure of /S-vetivone was offered by Johnson (322). Kalsi (330) isolated and characterized a new 14C hydrocarbon from vetiver oil, and Mizrahi and Nigam (451) reported for the first time the occurrence of three aromatic sesquiterpene hydrocarbons. Andersen et al (19,20) proposed certain biogenetic implications of the antipodal sesquiterpenes in vetiver oil, and further supported this biogenetic theory with studies of the structures of vetivenenes and vetispirenes.…”

“…The bisabolane sesquiterpenes ( S )-(+)-α-curcumene ( 265 , Figure ) and ( S )-(+)- ar -turmerone ( 266 ) are constituents of many essential oils and have been recognized as flavor components of the Zingiber and Curcuma species. The structurally related compounds ( S )-dehydrocurcumene ( 267 ) and ( S , E )-nuciferal ( 268 ) show the same absolute configuration and were isolated from vetiver oil and from the wood oil of Torreya nucifera , respectively. They can be prepared using 269 as a common key intermediate.…”
