Essential oils Constituents of the leaves of Amomum gagnepainii and Amomum repoense

Abstract: The chemical constituents identified in the essential oils hydrodistilled from the leaves of Amomum gagnepainii T.L.Wu, K.Larsen and Turland and Amomum repoense Pierre ex Gagnep (Zingiberaceae) of Vietnam origin are reported. The chemical analyses were performed by means of gas chromatography-flame ionisation detector (GC-FID) and gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The main compounds of A. gagnepainii were farnesyl acetate (18.5%), zerumbone (16.4%) and β-caryophyllene (10.5%). On the o… Show more

“…Wood from P. bournei , known as “wood with golden wire”, is used in the production of high-quality furniture and handicrafts due to its vertical wood texture, unique fragrance, resistance to insects and rot, durability, and beauty 11 , 12 . In ancient times, P. bournei timber was often used in palace construction to produce columns that represented the power and status of the nobles 10 , 13 , 14 . P. bournei is often used as a street tree because of its straight trunk and broad crown 15 .…”

“…The chemical constituents of volatiles of several Amomum plants have been documented (Chau et al, 2015;Dai et al, 2018;Huong et al, 2018). In addition, the biological activities of essential oils from other species of Amomum have been reported.…”

“…The aim of the present study was to examine the chemical constituents and antimicrobial activity of essential oils from the leaves and stem bark of Amomum rubidium, grown in Vietnam. This is in reference to our continued interest in the analysis of the chemical constituents of essential oils from Amomum plants (Chau et al, 2015;Dai et al, 2018;Huong et al, 2018) and other poorly studied species of Vietnamese flora (Thai et al, 2018). Amomum is a genus of plants native to China, the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia, New Guinea, and Queensland (Lamxay & Newman, 2012).…”
