Estimación de las consecuencias económicas de la perineumonía contagiosa bovina en África

Abstract: Contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP) is a disease that causes high morbidity and mortality losses to cattle. The financial implications of these losses are of great significance to cattle owners. Control of CBPP is therefore important as a way to salvage the losses and increase the incomes of cattle owners. This study estimated the economic cost of CBPP and the benefits of its control in twelve sub-Saharan African countries using a spreadsheet economic model developed in Microsoft Excel ® . The value of mo… Show more

“…1 It is transmitted by direct or close contact between infected cattle and susceptible animals, and remains an important constraint to cattle production in many sub-Saharan African countries. 2,5 It is a disease with very high economic importance, with the ability to compromise food security in endemic areas. 2 It was the only bacterial disease contained in the former List "A" Diseases grouping of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) requiring urgent outbreak reporting.…”

“…mycoides (Mmm) is the etiological agent of contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP), a severe respiratory disease of cattle notifiable to the World Organization for Animal Health (Office International des Epizooties [OIE]) (1). CBPP has been eradicated in most countries worldwide (http://www.oie.int/en/animal-health-in-the-world/ official-disease-status/cbpp/en-cbpp) but remains widespread in sub-Saharan Africa, where it strongly impacts livestock productivity, draining financial resources to Governments for high cost of the control measures (2,3).…”
