“…Besides the PFD on the leaves (I), the PFD on the open horizontal surface (Io) and its diffuse component was also measured. The shade ring (EIKO Seiki, MB-11) was used to estimate diffuse flux of PFD (lOdi f)' The direct flux of PFD (Iodir) was calculated by subtracting IOdif from 1 0 , Zenith and azimuth angles of each leaf were recorded manually with a protractor and compass just before and after the measurement, and then the incidences of direct flux of PFD (t/> and 8) were calculated (Hay and Mckay, 1985). At about noon the next day, PFD on leaves under shaded condition were measured by shading each location with styrene foam plate.…”

“…Direct irradiance is estimated with the solar zenith angle and the angle of incidence on the generator. Diffuse irradiance is calculated with the anisotropic model proposed in [36]. This model divides the diffuse irradiance in circumsolar (near the sun region) and isotropic, using an anisotropy index to estimate the ratio between them.…”

“…Despite the vast growth of PV installations and the evergrowing number of available commercial software for their simulation and economic assessment, there has been little to no research regarding the calculative accuracy of commercial PV simulation software packages. Research studies are focused on developing methods which can be used to create new software packages, such as new simulation techniques [17,18], models which can be used to compute the effects of shading [19], methodologies which may be used for the estimation of solar irradiance on inclined surfaces [20], the modelling of PV panels [21] and the simulation of the power electronics involved in PV installations [22,23]. Undoubtedly, commercial PV simulation software packages are using combinations of these models and methodologies, each of which is scientifically sound; however, their accuracy as a complete software package against real-world data has not been assessed.…”
