Estimation of Aboveground Biomass for Winter Wheat at the Later Growth Stage by Combining Digital Texture and Spectral Analysis

Abstract: Aboveground biomass (AGB) is an important indicator used to predict crop yield. Traditional spectral features or image textures have been proposed to estimate the AGB of crops, but they perform poorly at high biomass levels. This study thus evaluated the ability of spectral features, image textures, and their combinations to estimate winter wheat AGB. Spectral features were obtained from the wheat canopy reflectance spectra at 400–1000 nm, including original wavelengths and seven vegetation indices. Effective … Show more

“…In comparison, the application of near-ground UAVs provides significant assistance in improving the temporal and spatial resolution of rice monitoring, with the advantages of cost-effectiveness, operational simplicity, and high efficiency in large-scale monitoring ( Wan et al., 2020 ; Bascon et al., 2022 ; Luo et al., 2022 ; Xu et al., 2022a ). In particular, consumer-grade UAVs equipped with visible and multispectral cameras can conveniently obtain canopy structural parameters and key spectral, color and texture features, which have been widely used to estimate AGB ( Xu et al., 2022b ; Zheng et al., 2023 ).…”
