Etching-Free Ultrafast Fabrication of Self-Rolled Metallic Nanosheets with Controllable Twisting

Abstract: The rapid development of state-of-the-art nanotechnology is driven by the emerging novel nanofabrication methods, such as self-rolling of 2D materials or nanosheets. Nonetheless, the traditional chemical etching-based "roll-up" technologies suffer from a low fabrication efficiency and generally produce only scroll-like structures. In this work, we develop a versatile, ultrafast, and etching-free method to synthesize self-rolled metallic nanostructures through hydrogel surface buckling enabled exfoliation, whic… Show more

“…It is evident that the 2D nanomembrane synthesized by the PSBEE method exhibits superior lateral size to thickness ratios and lateral scales when compared to other aforementioned synthesis methods. 13,19 Aside from mechanical properties, the PSBEE-prepared 2D nanomembranes exhibit a remarkable capability to enhance the catalytic performance of materials. Its exceedingly high surface to volume ratio, surpassing that of catalytic materials with similar volumes, enables the exposure of a great number of active sites.…”

“…18 In addition to sheetlike nanomaterials, the experimental setup of PSBEE can be modified to produce 1D nanomaterials by rolling up large-sized 2D nanomaterials. 19 Furthermore, we can also synthesize 0D nanomaterials (e.g., nanoparticles) through thermal annealing of 2D and 1D nanomaterials in ambient conditions. 20 In this Account, we aim to delve into the fundamental aspects of PSBEE, provide an overview of the structural and functional properties exhibited by 2D nanomaterials fabricated by this method, and discuss the potential applications of these materials.…”

“…In addition, the presence of in-plane residual stress often leads to the rolling or twisting of ultrathin nanomaterials. [19,20] Therefore, it has never been straightforward to manipulate ultrathin nanomaterials in a controlled manner.Over the past years, tremendous efforts have been dedicated to structuring and manipulating ultrathin nanomaterials for real applications. According to the literature, [16,[21][22][23][24] the Ultrathin inorganic nanosheets (e.g., 2D nanomaterials, thin films, etc.)…”
